[Beens Prayer Partners] jeremiah been

Dear Friends,

We wanted to update you on Jeremiah and say thank you for praying.
Yesterday, after moving Jeremiah to formula and having him consume
only a tiny bit both times combined with the fact that he seemed
extremely lethargic, we took him to the clinic. After a full
examination the Dr. felt that everything was okay. She said it was
possible he may have a blood infection called SEPTICEMIA. She told
us to look out for certain warning signs over the next few days, as
everything was checking out okay. However, before we left Jeremiah
vomited. The combined vomiting/lethargy made the doctor decide it
would be good to observe him over night afterall. She ordered an
ultrasound of his abdomen, and an analysis of his urine and blood.
She also wanted him nursing (yea!) every two hours and to receive a
formula bottle three times a day.

Jeremiah did not vomit during the night, PTL. Last night he began
receiving antibiotics through an IV port for septicemia just in case,
as a culture will take 3 days to prove if he has that or not..

This morning his urinalysis came back showing there is some type of
bacterial infection in his urine. This could be a urinary track
infection or another sign of septicemia. Because he was not vomiting
and was more a little more active today the Dr. let him go home. We
are to bring him back twice a day to receive the antibiotics through
his IV port. On Wed. we will see the Dr. again to check his weight
and to find out what the blood cultures show. The Dr. feels that the
two antibiotics he is on will take care of the septicemia and/or the
urinary track infection.

Please continue to pray for his recovery and weight gain.

Blessings,

Dan and Robin Been

[Beens Prayer Partners] Jeremiah - more on weight gain

Dear Friends,

We went back to the Dr. today to weigh Jeremiah and he is still
losing weight so the Dr. has now put him on formula. We know that
normally breast milk is best but at this point the doctor (and
ourselves) assume there is a problem with Robin's milk. If by Monday
he is still losing or not gaining we will probably take him to South
Africa to have someone else look at him and run tests.

Just for information, Jeremiah's birth weight on Dec.17 was 7.6 lbs
and he is now 5.9 lbs. NOTE: there was not a weight taken when he
went home from the hospital. Also, on Thursday the Dr. was pleased
with Jeremiah's reflexes and heartbeat. So, right now there seems to
be no issues except his weight loss.

Pray that he would take a bottle and eat well
Pray Jeremiah would gain weight and stop losing weight

Feel feel to pass this on to others who will pray.

Thank you and blessings,

Dan and Robin Been

[Beens Prayer Partners] weight gain

Dear friends,

Just want to ask you to pray that Jeremiah would begin to gain
weight. We had his check-up today and the doctor was pleased with
everything except his weight. Of course all babies lose weight and
our kids always seem to be slower than the standard to regain that
weight but . . . We'll take him to re-weigh on Saturday and then
again on Monday so we can make a comparison and see if he's finished
losing and is starting to regain or if he's still losing.

Other than this potential issue all is well.

Blessings,
Robin

[Beens Prayer Partners] From the Beens

Dear Friends,

Hopefully you'll be able to open the .pdf attachment regarding Jeremiah's birth.  We are continuing to do well overall.  The kids all love him and don't understand why they can't hold him even if he's trying to sleep or nurse!

Blessings,
Robin & Dan

[Beens Prayer Partners] update

Dear friends,

Hope each of you are doing well. We wanted to give you a brief
update on where we are and such. Our time in Nelspruit, South
Africa went very well. The specially ordered car parts arrived
early in the week and so the mechanic was able to replace the
broken suspension spring and rear shocks as well as the general
maintenance. Actually I guess it was more than general
maintenance - more like a complete overhaul on many of the cars
parts but none the less it's done. The mechanic was shocked at
the condition of the car - mostly in regards to the entire
suspension system and asked multiple times what type of roads we
drive on. We'd planned on returning to Maputo Monday the 10th but
he completed things on Saturday the 8th and since the hotel where
we were staying was planning on having yet a 3rd night of parties
we decided to head home early and arrived back in Maputo around
11pm. Sunday morning we headed out for a short grocery stop
before church only to discover the upon leaving the grocery that
an engine light had come on and the car wasn't shifting correctly.
That afternoon when we headed out again for a worship service it
seemed to be doing fine but none the less Dan made a day trip back
to Nelspruit today so the mechanic could see what was going on.
All is well now - something to do with the alternator and after
minor adjustments the car was ready to leave again.

A funny side story here - the car was ready to leave, technically
speaking, however the entire town of Nelspruit was having a power
outage and our car was still stuck up in the air on the hydraulic
lift so Dan had to wait around until they could get it down. I'm
still not sure if the power came back on or if they managed to
hand crank it down but none the less Dan is on his way and should
be back soon.

We praise the Lord that the car parts did indeed arrive so the
major work could be done all at once, for the finances to have
things done, and that the later issue of the engine light wasn't a
huge deal and was dealt with in a day!!!

Also while in Nelspruit we managed to get in a few other doctor
visits - general check-ups for all, a dermatologist follow-up for
Esperansa, and eye check-ups on the 3 older kids and Dan. I must
say I was a touch 'nervous' about how the eye doctor appointments
would go since we were now consulting with the eye doctor who'd
earlier in the year said Karunia should have eye surgery and yet
we'd followed through with another doctor in Malawi who'd said the
surgery didn't need to be done. I wondered if he'd agree

[Beens Prayer Partners] We made it to Maputo!

Dear friends,

Thanks so much for your prayers during our travel south through the
country! We pulled in to Maputo about lunch time today (Sunday) and
after grabbing some lunch and things for dinner came out to the
compound where our colleagues live.

The trip was not completely uneventful (we started on Thursday with
Josiah getting sick several times in the car before we'd even left
Nampula) but overall went very smoothly! Our only car issue occurred
yesterday. After traversing a very bumpy pot-hole filled road we
pulled into a gas station in a the town of Massinga. Dan switched of
the car to fill the tank from our reserve store and when he went to
start it up again nothing happened. I mean absolutely nothing! The
car seemed completely dead!!! Praise the Lord when he popped the
hood the problem was easily seen. A battery cable wasn't connected
to the battery. Apparently the extremely bumpy road had bounced one
of the cables off. We reconnected the battery and the car started
right up.

We've managed to do a rapid unpacking and some laundry in preparation
for our trip to Nelspruit, S. Africa tomorrow where we'll check the
car into the garage for repairs/maintenance and get ourselves in for
various doctor appointments. Please continue to pray that the
special ordered parts would arrive this week while we're already there.

Blessings,
Robin & Dan
