[Beens Prayer Partners] We're heading home!

Dear friends,

We hurriedly returned to Maputo today (Thurs) so that we could get a few final things done in preparation for our flight back to Nampula tomorrow.  Yesterday we got Esperansa into a doctor there in Nelspruit, S. Africa to get his opinion on her jaundice and to get some tests run.  He didn't feel her jaundice was anything really significant.  In fact he didn't run all the tests we'd asked him to (which was a bit frustrating but . . .)  anyway - the tests he did run came back fine.  She's a touch jaundiced but according to him and those tests nothing to worry about and it should correct itself with time, feedings, and sunlight so . . .

One change to our original plans is that Dan is going to fly with us and we are going to leave our truck here in Maputo.  Another side benefit of our trip to S. Africa yesterday was that we were able to get a luggage rack and bull bar put on the truck - things we hadn't been able to do on previous trips.  We also wanted to have a snorkel put on (a device which will carry air into the engine if the hood of the car happens to go under water - an appliance which doesn't cost too much but will be life saving to the car if Dan happened to have to drive through a flooded river or such on a trip out to the bush).  Anyway - the outfitters didn't have the snorkel for our truck in stock.  This isn't something that can be put on in Mozambique so we'd thought we were just going to have to skip it, however upon thinking we realized there was another option.  We'll be coming down in Dec to meet Dan's folks for a visit; if Dan flew back now then we would have the benefit of our car in Dec to do a couple follow-up doctor appointments and such before meeting his parents and the snorkel could be put on while we're with them.  He can then drive the truck back north at that point.  In the meantime we'll get by with his motorcycle or the trucks of teammates if we really need them.  This is answered prayer from my part - I'll now have help with the kids in traveling!  YEAH!!!!

We're excited to be heading home and resettling there with our new addition and getting back to work.  Pray for us as we travel and transition once again.

Blessings,
Robin

[Beens Prayer Partners] Praise & prayers

Dear friends,

I wanted to give you another brief update.

Dan took the 3 older kids to S. Africa this past Sunday evening so that Josiah could have his follow-up appointment with the eye doctor to see how the patching was going.  Praise the Lord, it is going very well!!!  The doctor made comment that he has never seen such a dramatic improvement in such a little time span.  Praise the Lord!!!!  We are to continue the patching full time for a while longer.  At this point he wants to see Josiah in Dec, January, & possibly February as well.  Depending on how things check out at each of those visits we may be able to drop down to partial patching after that.  Please continue to pray that his vision will improve even more.  The doctor did say that we'll probably be patching him in some form another until his 7 yrs as that's when the vision is fixed in the brain, though for certain we won't have to keep up monthly appointments.  Again, join us in praising the Lord with us for the dramatic improvement in his vision!

Now, we'd like to reiterate our request for your prayers on Esperansa's jaundice.  Today we met with our doctor friend who'd looked at her this past Sunday.  Thankfully she did not feel that the jaundice was any worse than on Sunday, but she also didn't feel that it was any better.  Since we are anxious to get back home yet don't want to head there until we know for certain this is normal jaundice (which is just being slow in clearing up) as opposed to one with an underlying cause, we are now heading to S. Africa tomorrow to have some tests run.  We've already spoken with the doctor there and will meet with him first thing tomorrow morning.  Please pray that all tests would be normal and that indeed this is just typical jaundice.  Pray we would get conclusive results back quickly and that nothing would have to be re-run.

Obviously Dan is now not leaving tomorrow (Wed) for Nampula, but ideally we can return to Moz so that the kids and I can still catch our plane on Friday (and Dan will just drive up later).

Thanks so much, we'll keep you updated.

Blessings,
Robin
