[Beens Prayer Partners] update

Dear friends,

Thanks for praying for Dan's trip to Maputo to check out the various clinics there. His trip was fairly successful; he's found 2 clinics that have sufficient facilities that even if an emergency were to arise with the deliver of this baby then we would be okay. So we've pretty much decided that we'll head to Maputo around the end of Sept. We can step out to S. Africa for a couple days as soon as we get there to get various other doctor appointments knocked out of the way and get some work done on the car. Then we can stay on the compound with colleagues down south while we wait for the baby's arrival. The benefit of being in Maputo is we can come back to Nampula as soon as we feel up to travel. We'll decide which specific clinic to use after we get down there and can meet with a couple of the doctors from each place and decide who we like.

Secondly we really appreciate your prayers for our health. Continue those prayers please. At the moment everyone seems healthy but we've had a couple rounds of other things since I last wrote that letter so . . . .

Guess that's all for now.

Blessings,
Robin

[Beens Prayer Partners] mail

Dear friends,

Several of you have inquired into if it was possible to send things this way so I figured perhaps the easiest way to address the issue was by a general note of instruction.

Generally one can send things one of 2 ways - by air or sea. Strict letters will always come by air but otherwise the choice is yours. All things sent by air will take anywhere from 3-5 weeks. Things sent by sea can take anywhere from 3-6 months to receive. With that said however, other than strict letters, sending things by air can become very expensive, very quickly. Sea rates are much cheaper though there is the time factor. Either method seems to have good reliability, meaning most everything is received, though a couple years ago our teammates did have a package that never came through.

Finally our snail mail address is:
Beens / C.P. 688 / Nampula, Mozambique / Africa

If you have other questions please feel free to ask.

Blessings,
Robin

[Beens Prayer Partners] update and info

Dear friends,

Just wanted to give you a brief update and ask you to pray for a few things.

First of all, Saturday Dan attended an all day conference at one of the churches here in town where a visiting missionary from a town near Malawi (15 hrs away) was teaching.  Without going into all the details or technical theology involved, the teaching done was and is rather divisive.  The Church in Mozambique has already had trouble with divisions in the past and this conference hasn't helped much, however the minister at the hosting church also holds many of the same ideas which the missionary was teaching yesterday.  As the conference ended (and the missionary left), there were many upset people who stayed around to talk and debrief, etc.  Please pray for Dan, our teammates, and other leaders in the churches here, that they would be wise in handling situations which have and will arise from this conference.  Pray for false and divisive teachings to stop and pray for unity in the churches here of Mozambique.  Already there is such GREAT need for proper teaching - false and divisive teaching from others only makes the task that much greater and that much more important.

Secondly,  we have now ruled out the possibility of staying in Nampula as an option for having the baby, though we're still hoping to stay within Mozambique.  On Tuesday, the 16th, Dan will fly down to Maputo, the capital, to check out both a private and public hospital there.  Depending on what he finds out we'll then be able to decide if we can go only to Maputo or if we'll have to step out to S. Africa.  Please pray for wisdom for us as we make this decision.  Pray for safety in travel for Dan and for the kids and I as we stay here while he's gone.

Thirdly,  we've just had rounds of sickness going on for several weeks now; of course that can be typical anywhere with 3 kids, but . . . Josiah was sick and then Karunia and then Asher (Karunia got sick a 2nd time in here) and then everyone was better and then Karunia was sick again.  Please pray simply for our health.

Thanks so much!!!  We appreciate each of you.

[Beens Prayer Partners] August prayer update

Dear Friends,                                         31 July 05

July has been such a great month, though I can't believe how fast it has gone by!!! We are now almost completely settled and are praying that over this next month we can settle into a bit more of a routine with life, ministry, and such.

I'm so glad that the Lord never tires of our praise! Many of this month's praises are simply a continuation of last month's, but continue to join with us as we praise Him for:

  • Our continued adjustment and settling to our house and life here!

  • The beginning of ministry opportunities and the continuation of those.

  • For faithful supporters

  • For the desire of national ministers and people within the church to learn more of God and His word.

  • For a great visit and great travels with the visitors we hosted this month. (As a side note, they are leaning towards returning to Mozambique for ministry)!

  • Dan has finally managed to acquire his motorcycle – now perhaps we'll save some wear and tear on the truck!

  • All large housing projects are over for now and our space for hosting guests is now inhabitable!! Want to come over?

  • I've now received all my homeschooling materials and am starting to get those organized.

  • The kids continue to do well. Karunia has lost another tooth, Josiah has conquered 3 climbing trees in our yard, and Asher can almost be considered fully potty-trained!!!

  • On the 17th – Dan and I celebrate 9 years of marriage!!!

Pray with us for the following:

  • Josiah and Karunia are currently sick. It's apparently just a routine bug (he's not had mosquito bites to have contracted malaria and Karunia tested negative) but pray it would go away soon and the rest of us would not catch it.

  • That during this month we'll get a bit more routine established.

  • Dan will begin traveling to one of his “outside Nampula” discipleship points this month and begin to be at the center in town more. Pray these beginning lessons go well and that they would be well attended.

  • For Dan to have wisdom in deciding what location to choose as a 2nd “outside Nampula” discipleship point.

  • For God to raise up godly men who desire to be trained and discipled.

  • I will begin homeschooling Karunia and Josiah later this month. Pray for organization on my part and that the kids, Karunia in particular, would adjust well to being taught at home (if Josiah has real problems – he's only 4 and we'll probably not push him too much).

  • For other ministry opportunities and for wisdom in choosing how to handle the poverty around us.

  • For a safe and healthy pregnancy and for wisdom on our part as we try to decide whether it's feasible to remain in Mozambique for delivery or if we'll need to step out to S. Africa or Malawi. (this is a priority decision for the 1st and 2nd wk of August).

  • For wisdom as parents and that we would know the best way to instruct and discipline each child.

Blessings on each of you.
Robin and Dan, Karunia, Josiah, and Asher
